Sclerotherapy (spider vein removal) - $250 - $375

Sclerotherapy is a relatively painless procedure used to remove spider veins also known as telangiectasia. The legs are the most commonly treated area although small facial veins can also be treated. A sclerosing agent is injected directly into the vein which causes a gradual fading of the treated vein over a period of several weeks to several months. Most people treated have good results; however there is no guarantee that sclerotherapy will be effective in every case. In approximately 10% of patients treated the veins have not totally disappeared after six treatments. The number of treatments differs from patient to patient, depending on the extent of spider veins present. Patients usually need, on average, three to four sessions. Side effects include, but are not limited to, bruising or slight swelling which may last from one to several weeks. Use of support hose will be recommended and avoidance of alcohol and anticoagulant medication for 72 hours prior to each treatment may minimize adverse effects. A few patients may experience mild pain at the injection site. The pain is usually temporary. (Back to the top)
